Ireland’s capital bustles with excitement all year round and Christmas time in Dublin brings the added pleasure of colour, Christmas lights and Christmas shopping. Opening hours generally run from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturdays, while at Christmas time these are often extended to 8pm and on Sunday’s from 12pm to 6pm. You can expect Dublin to be extremely busy on December 8th as on this day people from all over the Ireland hurry to the capital to do their Christmas shopping and soak up Dublin’s Christmas spirit. With many Christmas markets popping up within the next two weeks, the Christmassy feel starts to grow again. Popular Christmas markets in Ireland include the Dublin Docklands Christmas Market, “Glow – A Cork Christmas Celebration” as well as Ireland’s longest running Christmas Market the Galway Continental Christmas Market. Irish SantaIt’s nearly Christmas!!! I’ve opened more than half of the doors of my advent calendar already and I’m really busy finding nice Christmas presents for my friends and family. Decorating houses and Christmas trees (as cheesy & glittery as possible!), listening to Christmas songs (and obviously singing along), baking Christmas cookies, looking for the perfect Christmas Party outfit and doing our Christmas shopping with thousands of other desperate people – these are all well-known (pre) Christmas “traditions”  in many countries.  But living here in Ireland now, I was wondering if there are Christmas traditions that are typically Irish; customs that I’ve never heard of before. Christmas Time in Dublin City

Dig out your Christmas jumpers! IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME!!!
As I walk through the streets of Dublin now, I’m amazed how much the city has changed in just a couple of days: the main shopping streets are decorated with colourful Christmas lights and huge sparkling Christmas trees. The sweet sound of everyone’s favourite Christmas songs can be heard everywhere and the streets are filled with the chatter of busy Dubliners, trying to get their Christmas shopping done.
